Help For Dial Up Connections
Thank you for listening to WOBO, and we are sorry you are having problems listening to our live Internet broadcast. Please check these common problems.

Stream Not Available
Close the player and try again. If the condition persists,
1.       The maximum number of listeners may already be connected to the stream.
2.       The stream may be temporarily offline.

Re-Buffering and Dropouts
Problems with playback stopping every few seconds are usually due to a connection speed that is not fast enough to receive the audio stream.

WOBO is dedicated to providing a high quality listening experience. The dial up stream is a monaural program because WOBO believes the quality of our broadcast is the first priority. Lower bit rate streams, that do not drop out on dial up connections, have been tested. The current dial up stream was considered to provide the minimum quality. At lower rates the sound becomes dull, with increasing distortion.

  1. The connection speed (usually reported when a dial up connection is made) must be at least 24 kbps. Connections less than 28 kbps are expected to drop out occasionally. If you are connecting through a service such as AOL, then a speed of over 30 kbps will probably be required to accommodate the audio stream and all of the pictures and text being sent to the service provider’s windows.

  2. Be sure you are accessing the dialup stream. Some users can connect at 56 kbps and select the 64 kbps stream. It will play for a few seconds, then run out of buffered data.

  3. If you are connecting through AOL, or another content providing service, after starting the stream close all windows and minimize the main window. Also, disable instant messaging, and anything that may cause background downloading.

  4. After connecting to the dial up service, try launching the player and pointing it at the stream.

  1. Windows media player should be updated to version 9. Also, Turn off all the background Internet access options in the TOOLS/OPTIONS menu.

  2. If the player is still 'buffering' or 're-connecting', then try increasing the player buffering. Since Internet data often comes in bursts, a larger buffer may help.

For Windows Media player
1. Select on the menu bar TOOLS / OPTIONS
2. Select the PERFORMANCE tab
3.    In the "Network buffer" section select the "Buffer" check box
4.    Enter a value of 15 to 60 seconds
5.    Click OK

  1. If you are still having problems email webmaster@wobofm.org.
    Please include:

    ·         If using Windows media player, what are the stream statistics
           (View / Statistics / Advanced)?
