Music of our Time, Diederik De Jong

“Music of Our Time” is a program of 20th Century and 21st Century Classical Music, Light Music, and Jazz. It is a unique program based on the MELODIC music of over 2000 composers from 55 different countries on all continents except Antarctica. The majority of the composers heard on the program are unknown to the listeners. That’s the way Diederik likes it. Diederik plays music from Malta, Iceland, Bulgaria, New Zealand, South Africa, etc., and fifty other countries. For example, all countries of Europe, except Albania, are represented on his program. If you expect to listen to well-known music by well-known composers, then his program is not for you. He challenges you to listen to these composers whose music is rarely, if ever, played on other radio stations. Diederik believes that his program, in its length, countries represented, and his choice of music, is the only one of its kind in the world.

Music is Important in our Lives. Music helps give expression to thoughts and feelings when words fail us. Music is also valuable because it connects us to our past--to people, events, and times that were significant in our growing up years. We commonly refer to those years as "the good old days." If big band and swing and pop vocals from the 30s, 40s, and 50s are your kind of music, join me, and let's connect with and enjoy some of the best of "Yesterday's Music for Today."
